Bassett’s performance as Queen Ramonda earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
Dedicates his win to the late Chadwick Boseman. At the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on January 11th 2023 Angela Bassett accepted the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role as Queen Ramonda in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The 64-year-old became the first actor to win a major individual acting award for a film based on Marvel Comics.
In his acceptance speech, Bassett shared her thoughts on making Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She said “I’ve found my words. I’m so nervous,” she said on stage. My heart is racing,” Bassett began as he took the stage to accept the award.
“The late Toni Morrison said your life was already a miracle of chance, waiting for you to decide its fate.” “We started this journey with love. We mourned, we loved and we healed. And we will surround ourselves with light every day with the spirit of Chadwick Boseman. It is part of his legacy that he has led us to. We showed the world what Black integration, leadership, and love looked like behind, behind, and in front of the camera.
In the film, Queen Ramonda, along with her daughter Shuri and Dora leader Milaze Okoye, protect the country from interference from world powers after the death of King T’Challa.

Angela Bassett’s performance as Queen Ramonda was the focus of the film for director Ryan Coogler and many of the cast. Letitia Wright (Shuri) shared about Bassett’s impact: “Angela has been a great help in my life since the first movie. She always gave advice. Angela Bassett delivered a special message to Marvel fans around the world as she wrapped up her acceptance speech at the Golden Globe Awards. With this nomination and this award we have made history. It belongs to all of you and all of us.
Prior to Bassett’s triumph in Wakanda Forever, only four actors and no women had been nominated for a Golden Globe for playing a superhero film: Ryan Reynolds in 2016’s Deadpool (The Actor’s Musical) and Jack Nicholson for Batman ( Musical/Comedy Actor), 1989, and Joaquin Phoenix, 2019 Joker Winner (Drama Actor)
Meanwhile, his co-star Letitia Wright spoke on the red carpet about the third season of the “Black Panther” saga.
“When are you planning to greenlight ‘Black Panther 3,'” Wright told Variety?
“I think it’s in the works right now,” Wright replied.
“You know, we just had a wonderful two years delivering this and everyone has come together to support it. We need a little break, we need to regroup, and (director) Ryan (Coogler) needs to “pick up the slack. The Lab so it’s going to take a bit but we’re really looking forward to seeing it.
