5 NEW MARVEL CHARACTERS THAT MIGHT TRANSFORM THE MCU

NEW MARVEL CHARACTERS

The Captain Marvel sequel may introduce key characters from The Marvels as the MCU expands.

Potentially significant new characters for the MCU could be introduced in The Marvels. In 2023, the intriguing slate includes the July 28th release of the Captain Marvel sequel. Despite the mixed reactions to the first film in 2019, The Marvels is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Even though we haven’t seen a teaser for the film just yet, Marvel has already begun promoting it with the debut of the film’s official poster.

The Marvels, taking up from Ms. Marvel’s post-credits stinger, will bring together Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau’s Photon, and Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel. For the first time, we’ll know for sure if Ms. Marvel’s bangle is connected to Kang and/or Shang-Chi, as has been speculated. Like with every other MCU film, The Marvels will almost certainly advance the Multiverse Saga, which means that new, significant characters will almost certainly be introduced.

05. ROGUE

Theoretically, Rogue is the best choice for the villain in a future Captain Marvel movie. While Rogue is better recognised as a member of the X-Men and a hero, she really made her debut as a villain in Avengers Annual #10, published in 1981. Upon meeting Carol Danvers in her Ms. Marvel identity, she permanently inherited her abilities, hence their relationship is significant. Something that was previously impossible to depict in the X-Men films produced by Fox is now feasible within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Marvels could make history with Rogue’s debut to the MCU. After Namor and Kamala Khan, she would be the next mutant to make an appearance. Rogue, on the other hand, would be a much more significant factor in bringing about the X-complete Men’s acceptance into society. Anything like that happening in a movie like The Marvels would be shocking, especially considering that we might not see any further advancement on that front until Deadpool 3 in Phase 6. While it would be thrilling to get a glimpse of Rogue so soon, it doesn’t appear to be possible outside of a post-credits sequence. Perhaps it would be best to wait until Captain Marvel 3 for Rogue and Carol Danvers to finally meet paths.

04. NOVA

Nova’s introduction, unlike Rogue’s, is a sure thing, giving him a better chance of making his debut in The Marvels. A Nova series for Disney+ has been confirmed. It’s probably going to be one of the movies or shows that are scheduled to debut in Phase 6, but haven’t been officially announced yet. This series has been a long time coming, what with the Nova Corps’ introduction in Guardians of the Galaxy and the annihilation of Xandar being a key part of his heroic past as portrayed in Avengers: Infinity War. Since that no one knows when they’ll see him again, his appearance in The Marvels would likely be more well received than Hercules’s in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Nova, who has fought both on Earth and in space, has the potential to become one of the MCU’s top heroes alongside Captain Marvel. Curiously, his debut may predate The Marvels, setting the stage for him to become one of the series’ primary cosmic heroes. As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will serve as the team’s final appearance in the MCU, Nova might be introduced after the credits as a replacement. Xandar’s ties to the Kree, who play a significant role in Captain Marvel’s plot, make him a natural fit for The Marvels if that doesn’t work out.

03. GENIS-VELL & PHYLA-VELLL

Just three of the seven Captain Marvels have appeared in the MCU thus far (Carole Danvers, Mar-Vell, and Monica Rambeau), but the title of The Marvels suggests that the remaining two might make an appearance. In order, the children of Mar-Vell, Genis-Vell and Phyla-Vell, are the third and fourth people to assume the role of Captain Marvel. Curiously, they are both manufactured creations made by Elysius, Mar-lover, Vell’s who was also artificially formed in a manner similar to that of an Eternal. If the MCU decides to combine stories, this might set the stage for an unexpected appearance by the two characters in Eternals 2.

While it’s preferable for both Genis-Vell and Phyla-Vell to be introduced at the same time, they can still have their own stories in the MCU. Phyla is a natural fit for the second generation of Guardians of the Galaxy, as she is a founding member of the current lineup along with Nova and her lover, Moondragon, as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Conversely, Genis has the option of joining forces with Silver Surfer or the Thunderbolts in the future. Notably, the dynamic between him, Rick Jones, and the Negative Zone has previously been adapted for use in The Marvels.

02. BLUE MARVEL

A fun option based on the film’s title is Blue Marvel. Having only debuted in 2008, Blue Marvel is less well-known than the rest, but he’s still the perfect stunt post-credit introduction for The Marvels. Adam Brashear was active in the 1960s, during which an experiment into the Negative Zone imbued him with extraordinary strength and powers that only characters like Captain Marvel could rival. Significantly, theories about Kamala’s bangle being one of the Nega-Bands would connect it to the Negative Zone. Aptly, when the eponymous trio are swapping places, perhaps one of them ends up stuck there, and they meet Blue Marvel in the same situation.

The incorporation of the Negative Zone would set up big things for many other characters in the MCU, including the Fantastic Four and Nova. As in the comics, it could be a significant alternate dimension for the MCU to explore. Blue Marvel’s introduction would also further other storylines. Particularly, his treatment in the 60s – when it was determined the world was not “ready” for a Black superhero, so he retired – tragically aligns with Isaiah Bradley’s history as shown in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He can also help set up the Ultimates, the team who protects Earth from cosmic threats. Blue Marvel’s the only member missing.

01. NOH-VARR

Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, America Chavez, and Billy and Tommy when they are eventually brought back must all appear in the MCU, despite the fact that they aren’t Young Avengers in the comics. Noh-Varr, affectionately known as Marvel Boy, joins the Marvels just in time to help further the MCU Young Avengers project. The fact that he comes from another world makes him the ideal candidate and, perhaps, the most rational one. He has a decent chance of succeeding because he is a Kree ensign, and the Kree Empire is commonly known to support The Marvels.

The addition of Noh-Varr would give the MCU a boost in the direction of making the Young Avengers project, which is expected to premiere after or in the wake of the Multiverse Saga. On the other hand, Noh-Varr is a hero who may join a new Guardians of the Galaxy team, just like in the comics. No matter what the circumstances, Noh-Varr, like the others, can help bring about interesting intergalactic alliances and stories. The Marvels just need to unveil them, and it will forever change the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
